Aethel recruits and manages online private tutors for international school families in Hong Kong, Singapore, Mainland China and Canada. We specialise in five curricula — A-Level, IGCSE, AP, IB and OSSD — and match tutors by system, not by availability.
Who we are
Our team brings many years of experience managing teachers and tutors in a wide range of settings. That depth of knowledge gives us the flexibility to create the academic program you are seeking for your child. We are not a marketplace or a directory: every tutor is vetted, trained and managed by us.
What we believe
Different families have different priorities for their children’s education, and specific ideas about how that education should be delivered. Our client managers and tutors work with you and your child to plan lessons and experiences that stimulate a desire to learn — one that will last a lifetime.
Why are we Online Only
We don’t run a physical centre, and that is a deliberate choice — not a limitation. It is the reason we can keep our rates within reach of ordinary families while still matching your child with a specialist tutor for their exact subject and level. Every hour you pay for goes into teaching, not rent.
No centre rent means lower rates
A centre-based agency carries leases, utilities, and front-of-house staff — and those costs end up in the hourly rate. We carry none of them. The savings go into the price you pay, not into overheads. That is why our rates sit below centre-based agencies for a vetted, trained and managed tutor.
No travel costs for anyone
There is no tutor transport surcharge on your bill, and no drive across the city after school for your child. A one-hour lesson is a full hour of teaching — for both of you. For families in Mainland China or Canada working across time zones, scheduling is built around your child’s timetable, not a centre’s opening hours.
The right tutor for the curriculum, not the closest one
A physical agency can only offer tutors who live nearby. Online, we match your child with a tutor who specialises in exactly their subject and level — IB Chemistry HL, A-Level Further Maths, AP Physics C. For specialist subjects and HL/SL distinctions, the nearest tutor is rarely the best one. Affordability does not mean settling for whoever is available.
Same standard in every market, at the same price
Our matching, background checks and pre-engagement training are identical whether your family is in Hong Kong, Singapore, Mainland China or Canada. The rate is set by curriculum and level, not by your postcode.
The tutor stays when you move
International school families relocate — between cities, between countries, sometimes mid-year. With an online tutor, a move doesn’t mean starting the search again. The same tutor who knows your child’s IA topic or exam board can continue through the transition, and your remaining hours carry over.
